Solemn Coyote's Writing Tips

1

Writers should try to avoid over-using 'dictionary articles', in which they
take the dictionary definition of the term as a starting point, and then expand
upon that with their own ideas. We seem to be getting a lot of these and, while
they aren't necessarily bad, I'm not sure how much they add to STP. Of course, I
have no problem with working a definition into the body of the article, I just
think we should step away from the "here's what Webster says, here's what I say"
format.

2

Spellcheck: check twice, save a life. The less nitpicky editing we have to
do, the better.

3

I understand that writers might feel very passionate about one issue or
another, but rants should still try to have some topic-important information in
them, especially if they're not listed as rants. Likewise with humor-oriented
articles. Try to keep some content in it, rather than letting the joke take
over.

4

It might be a good idea to encourage different article formats, such as
Canilla Stylo's "Classroom".

5

If a writer particularly wants editor attention for their article, they
should say so in their submission e-mail.

6
Writers should submit early, especially if they want editing.
